This class will focus on using clays and oxides from the earth to color cloth. Colors derived from these sources are highly color and light fast but require special handling to make them so. Techniques learned in class will be similar to those used to produce the first calico fabrics. We will cover how to pre-treat fabric to ensure maximum color uptake, dyeing the fabric, and post-dye finishing.
