Discover the fascinating, rhythmic art of traditional lace making! Bobbin lace is a beautiful textile craft made by twisting and crossing threads wound on spools called bobbins. In this introductory workshop, you will learn the foundational mechanics of the craft while creating a charming "Bookworm" bookmark. Guided step-by-step, you will learn the core stitches of bobbin lace, how to accurately read and follow a working pattern, and how to seamlessly weave a decorative bead into your design. By the end of the session, you will have a unique, handmade bookmark and the core skills needed to take on more complex lacemaking projects.
What you will learn: ● Foundational stitches: Mastering the basic twists and crosses that form the backbone of all bobbin lace patterns. ● Pattern reading: Understanding how to follow a lacemaking grid and manage your threads. ● Embellishing: Techniques for introducing beads directly into your woven design.
📖 Bonus Materials Included: Your class fee includes a copy of the 80-page textbook Beginners Guide to Bobbin Lace by Gilian Dye and Adrienne Thunder (where our bookworm pattern is featured). Note: All tools and materials are provided for use during the workshop. If you fall in love with the craft, bobbin lace pillows and bobbins will be available for purchase directly from the instructor after class.
