In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to draft and weave custom lettering. Students will be provided with two distinct alphabet charts to choose from, allowing you to spell out names, mottos, dates, or personalized messages. To maximize your weaving time, we will also cover an efficient speed warping technique to simplify set-up and get your cards threaded in a fraction of the time. Students will work on an individual project using a provided set of tablets and patterns. You’ll learn how to read and follow tablet-weaving patterns, loom warping options, how to start and stop their weaving, and how to maintain even tension. The focus is on technique and understanding pattern systems, you’ll leave with a woven sample that reflects your personal color choices.

Materials Required: Students Bring: Inkle or band weaving loom. Inklette looms are not suitable for this class. Bowls, baskets or lazy kate for use while warping. Scissors or thread snips. Thread: Two contrasting colors of Size 10 crochet thread or 8/4 carpet warp. One color will be the background and the other color will be the letters. You should have 2 - 2-3 oz balls of each color plus one extra of the background color to use as your weft.

Prerequisites: This is not a beginner class. Students should have previously warped and woven at least 3 bands on their own.
